Arafat Hasan: India has suggested names of three of its top directors — Shyam Benegal, Goutam Ghosh and Kauskhik Ganguly — to Bangladesh for jointly making a feature film on the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to mark his birth centenary in 2020 as well as a documentary on the Liberation War to mark 50 years of the event.
The names of Benegal, Ghosh and Ganguly were shortlisted and handed over to Bangladesh at the first meeting of India-Bangladesh Joint Committee on Audio-Visual Co-Production held in New Delhi last month, reported The Daily Star.
Bangladesh is expected to suggest the names of three of its own directors for the feature film and the documentary at the Committee’s second meeting to be held in Dhaka within the next couple of months.
A final decision regarding the joint production will be made only after Bangladesh comes up with its panel of names. There is a possibility of the final decision to be taken at the meeting to be held in Dhaka, where discussions will also take place regarding script writings and other related matters.
During the last meeting in Delhi, the two sides had agreed on expediting the work on the joint production as stipulated in a MoU signed between the two countries during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent visit to New Delhi in April 2017.
