DOT Desk: Canadian High Commissioner Dr Lilly Nicholls met BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir and other senior leaders at the party office yesterday, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The meeting started at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan at 1pm on Thursday, confirmed BNP’s press wing member Shamsuddin Didar. Among a range of issues, they discussed the importance of free, fair and participatory elections in Bangladesh, the Canadian High Commission said.
High Commissioner Nicholls remarked: “Elections are about giving citizens a choice in who runs their government. Making a choice requires options; we hope that the upcoming election includes a wide range of voices, debate and dialogue. That way, the people of Bangladesh can choose their own future.” The Chief Political Officer of the Canadian Embassy Bradl Kotali was present in the meeting.
BNP Standing Committee member and International Affairs Committee Convener Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and BNP Organizing Secretary and International Affairs Committee Member Shyama Obaid were also present at the time.
