Canadian Minister of International Development Karina Gould has highly appreciated Bangladesh government’s policy and steps to prevent “early marriage” in the country. The Canadian minister’s appreciation came during a meeting with Bangladesh State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki in New York on Monday, according to a message received here On tuesday. Chumki is now in New York to join the 60th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 60). During the meeting, the state minister highlighted the (Bangladesh) government’s achievements in women empowerment and gender equality. She also apprised the Canadian minister of the steps Bangladesh government has so far taken to check “early marriage”.
Meanwhile, a side even was arranged in the afternoon under the joint initiatives of Bangladesh and Canada, where the state minister also elaborated the Bangladesh government’s measures to prevent early marriage.
