DOT Desk: The Election Commission has decided to hold the by-election in the Dhaka-17 constituency on July 17, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The voting will be conducted through ballots instead of Electronic Voting machines (EVMs).
The Election Commission Secretariat made the announcement by issuing a notification yesterday. The date of this election was finalized in the meeting.
Election Commissioner Md Jahangir Alam said that according to the announced schedule, interested candidates can submit nomination papers till June 15. Candidates will be selected on June 18. Nomination papers can be withdrawn till June 25. The symbol will be allotted on June 26. The constituency became vacant following the demise of MP Akbar Hossain Pathan, popularly known as Farooq, on May 15. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time from Awami League in the 11th National Parliament Election.
