The rate of breast feeding babies between the ages of 0 to 6 months has lessened by 9% in the last 4 years in Bangladesh. The rate was 64% in 2011, when a research was last conducted on this subject. The rate of feeding powder milk to these babies is increasing dangerously.
These statistics were presented at a national discussion meeting titled, ‘Child Nutrition & BMS Act – 2013’. The meeting put forth various commendations including the strengthening of the Institute Of Public Health. The meeting was arranged by BRAC at the Shaheed Dr. Milton Hall of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
Dr. SK Roy, president of Bangladesh Breast-feeding Foundation (BBF) presented an essay on law related to breast-milk during the meeting. Research and Evaluation division staff researcher of BRAC, Fahmida Aktar presented more statistics regarding the topic under discussion.
