Fardeen Ameen
Recognizing the need to empower female voices and instigate discussion on prevailing issues regarding gender & identity , the BRAC Bank Great Gender Debates was held from 10th-12th of March on BRAC University Campus.
The open tournament was organized by the illustrious BRAC University Debating Club(BUDC) and encouraged participation from school students , university students & even working professionals with the rules requiring at least one female member per team in order to uplift female participation in Bangladesh’s competitive debating fraternity.
32 teams fought it out with participants ranging from renowned institutions such as Dhaka University , North South University , BRAC , BUET, The Aga Khan School , Scholastica etc.
The championship title was won by FardeenAmeen , a 4th year student of Independent University Bangladesh &TahrimaSaihaHaq , an A-Levels Student of Scholastica School whereas the runners-up award went to MasturaTasnim , a third year student at IBA-DU & Asif Hassan , a 4th year student at BRAC University.
FardeenAmeen was also awarded the title of Best Speaker Of The Tournament , while MasturaTasnim of IBA-DU was awarded the title of Best Female Speaker.
The 3 day long event encompassed fierce discussion on issues such as women discrimination in the workplace, transgender rights & the nature of feminism in today’s world & helped establish a platform for discussion equal participation for both males & females.
The Bangladesh Debating Community is a globally awarded intellectual hub for academic discussion within a competitive framework and initiatives such as these from BRAC University can only help elevate the community’s standards even further.
