M Humayun Kabir: The BNP held a rally in the capital for the first time in two and a half years demanding party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail and her treatment.
Senior leaders of the party attended the rally at party’s Nayapaltan central office yesterday afternoon with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the chair, reports bdnews24.com.
Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police allowed the BNP to hold a ‘peaceful rally’ from 2pm to 5pm on a 23-point condition.
A good number of leaders and workers carrying festoons and banners in hand poured into the venue, stretching from Fakirapool to Kakrail’s Nightingale intersection.Raising the same demand, separate rallies have also been simultaneously arranged across the country, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.The BNP chairperson is now behind bars since February 8, following her conviction in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
