BJP protests insults to Hindu religion, Modi in Bangladesh quota movement
DOT Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has protested slogans and remarks made by students during the quota reform movement in Dhaka against the Hindu religion, India, and its Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reports Dhaka Tribune.
On Monday afternoon, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, presented four videos to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata. In the videos, anti-India slogans were raised continuously, and Modi’s name also came up. Suvendu asked the Bangladesh High Commission to identify the people behind such campaigns and take quick action. Accompanied by a delegation of 20 BJP MLAs, Subhendu went to meet the Deputy High Commissioner in the afternoon. However, before entering the premises, they faced police obstacles.
The BJP claimed that prior permission was sought for the day’s program. However, the state police stopped them while they were entering the premises. After meeting with the officials, Suvendu said: “Last Saturday, we informed the Deputy High Commissioner about our visit.
We also have written permission. But Mamata Banerjee’s police are becoming more brutal day by day. We will not accept it.”
Regarding the issues of concern, the BJP leader said that the protesters demeaned the sentiments of Hindus, Indians, and the Indian premier.
He mentioned two slogans that said “Sheikh Hasinar Babar Naam, Hare Krishna Hare Rama”, which translates to Hare Krishna Hare Rama is the father of Sheikh Hasina, and “Bharat Jader Mamar Bari, Bangla Chharo Taratari” (those who have maternal uncles in India should leave Bangladesh).
Suvendu also criticized the “Boycott Indian Products” campaigns by “Razakars, Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam” in Dhaka and other cities.
According to the BJP leader, the protesters also criticized the members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after they were deployed to restore normalcy, saying: “Tomra Modir Santan, Simante Firey Jao” (you are the sons of Modi; go back to the border).
Suvendu told reporters that the BJP was not worried about the internal affairs of Bangladesh. He added that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was against Hindu refugees but was eager to accommodate the Rohingya population.
He said: “India is like our mother. So, we protested anti-India slogans. We will not tolerate insulting our country’s prime minister. No one can disrespect him. Narendra Damodar Das Modi is the name of the world’s most popular leader.”
