Berlinale Spotlight to start in Dhaka

Desk Report: Berlinale Spotlight, a major German film festival that sells tickets to the public for all featured films, is going to be held in Dhaka from 1 September to 6 September, reports Prothom Alo. The programme will be held as a part of establishing communications between the Bangladeshi filmmakers and the Berlin Film Festival, scheduled for February 2019. The programme will be held at Goethe-Institut in Dhaka for two days and the remaining events will be held at Dhaka DocLab in the city.
Dorothee Wenner and Meenakshi Sheddy, representatives of the Berlin Film Festival, will participate in several sessions at the Goethe-Institut on 3 and 6 September. Filmmakers, producers and scriptwriters can directly talk to them in the programme.
On 10:00am 3 September, in an open segment for all, the representatives will be talking about the festival.
There will be one to one meeting with the representatives as well on 2:00pm to 5:00pm on 3 September, and from 12:00pm to 4:00pm on 6 September. Films will be screened at 5:30pm on both day.
The filmmakers have to submit their documents and projects via e-mail to program-dhaka@goethe.de <mailto:program-dhaka@goethe.de> within 29 August to participate in the meeting. Details about the programme will be available on the Facebook page of Goethe-Institut Bangladesh.
The film festival will present another Berlinale Spotlight in a second programme to be held by Dhaka DocLab from 31 August to 5 September.
“We’re excited about the ifi Bangladesh and Dhaka DocLab’s interest in the Berlinale and thank them for the chance to network with filmmakers in Bangladesh. Our festival representatives Dorothee Wenner and Meenakshi Shedde are looking forward to meeting established film professionals and new talents,” says Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick on the website of the Berlin Film Festival.
