Bangladesh has been ranked 16 in leather footwear export in 2018. The country’s footwear manufacturers and exporters said that Bangladesh could be ranked within 10th position if special incentives are afforded to the sector.
According to a report published recently by worldstopexports.com, an organization which carries out research over the export products of different countries, Bangladesh occupied 1.2 percent of the total leather footwear exports all over the world which amounts to $ 67.69 dollar equivalent to Tk 5754 crore.
The exporters countries fetched $ 5570 crore from selling leather footwear in 2018. Top 15 countries are controlling 82.6 percent of the export of footwear in the world.
Italy is holding the second position on the list of the exporters.
The country’s businesspersons are happy as Bangladesh ranked 16th position against all odds.
Shakhawat Ullah, general secretary of Bangladesh Tanners’Association said that the country’s tanners were going through a tough time after shifting from Hazaribag to Savar tannery estate.
Delwar Hussain, President of Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchant Association echoed the same.
He said they could not purchase rawhides this year due to fund crisis.
