BSS: The golden jubilee (50th anniversary) of the conferment of the Joliot-Curie Peace Medal on greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was celebrated here in a befitting manner yesterday.
Bangabandhu, the architect of independence and the forerunner of democracy and peace movement, was awarded the Joliot-Curie Peace Prize by the World Peace Council on May 23, 1973.
To celebrate the historic day, the district administration chalked out colorful programs including bringing out a huge rally, discussion, distribution of prizes among winners of different competitions and cultural functions.
Led by Divisional Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman, the rally paraded the main streets from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises to the Town Hall premises in the city in the morning.
Officials of the divisional and district level civil and police administrations and other departments, political leaders, teachers, students, media workers, professionals, sociocultural activists and civil society members participated in the rally. Later, the district administration arranged a discussion at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium with Deputy Commissioner Dr Chitralekha Nazneen in the chair.
