Dr. Anupam Sen, Vice-Chancellor, Premier University: Anti-narcotic drives have been conducted in many countries of the world in different times. Our country in following the same route since its high time this illness needs to be uprooted. But it has to be done in the legal manner.
Possibilities of some accidental incidents become bold when the laws are enforced strongly.
The drug lords are very powerful. Conflicts occur when they try to use their power against the law enforcers with a formal name of crossfire.
I don’t know the authenticity of the crossfires but, this cannot be allowed to continue.
Our target is to build a narcotics free nation. We have to be very scared if all these efforts fail to free our society from this threat.
The state and the law enforcers have yet to play a huge role if we are committed to protect ourselves from this disaster. The society also has an important role to play to abolish drugs. No government can solely succeed in such an operation if support is not backed by the whole society. Although our mass and the society are supporting the campaigns, I think there is more to be done for the sake of awareness. Only if we work together, we will be able to combat this menace.
