Desk Report
The ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance today announced to hold rallies across the country in October in a bid to take control of the streets ahead of the 11th parliamentary election slated to be held at the end of December, the Daily Star.
As part of the efforts, the 14-party alliance will hold rallies in Rajshahi on October 9, in Natore on October 10 and in Khulna on October 13.
However, the date of holding a grand rally in Dhaka was yet to be announced.
Ruling Awami League Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim, also the coordinator of the 14-party alliance, came up with the announcement while addressing a rally at Mahanagar Natya Mancha in this capital this afternoon.
“We will hold a grand rally in Dhaka upon consent of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and in her presence. The next general election will be held in December. Before it, we will warm up the election field,” Nasim said.
The AL-led 14-party alliance organised the rally protesting what it said “BNP’s spontaneous falsehood and conspiracy” ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The rally started around 3:00pm with Mohammed Nasim in the chair.
Leaders and activists of Awami League, its different front and associate bodies and its alliance partners from different parts of the capital attended the programme.
They formed processions carrying banners, placards and festoons and chanting slogans in favour of the government as they joined the programme.
Earlier, following a meeting of the 14-party alliance on September 24, the AL announced that it would hold the rally at Mahanagar Natya Mancha today (September 29).
The BNP on September 25 also said it would hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on the same day (September 29) instead of September 27.
