Kabir Humayun: A Kushtia court yesterday granted bail to the owner and driver of Faisal Ganj-e-Raj Paribahan in a case filed in connection with the death of 13-month-old Akifa Yasmin.
Akifa, who was hit by the bus in the town on August 28, succumbed to her head injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on August 30.
Senior Judicial Magistrate MM Morshed of Chief Metropolitan Judges Court in the Sadar upazila passed the order after law enforcers produced the owner before the court, reports The Daily Star. Altaf Hossain Khokon, the driver of the bus, surrendered before the court at the same time.
Akifa’s father Harunur Rashid filed a case with Kushtia Sadar Police Station against three people, including bus owner Jainal and driver Mohid Mia alias Khokon.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-8) raided Jhiltuli area in the town and arrested the owner Jainal Abedin around 5:30am.
Jainal, 63, son of late Adel Uddin Matbor of Charnotakhola village in Dohar upazila of Dhaka, was later handed over to Kushtia Sadar Police Station around 3:15pm on Sunday, the police official said.
