Heavy seasonal rains have caused flood on the montane areas & is flowing toward Kaptai Lake. Thousands of families already have lost their houses. Low-lands were also flooded due to water-height increase of Kaptai Lake. In order to, avoid any critical threats the authorities have opened 16 gates of Kaptai Dam. Currently it is releasing 79 thousand cusec water per second.
The dam has capability of holding up to 109 feet water-height. Though, it supposed to be around 93 feet by the rule-curve, it is already above 107 feet. Hence the 4 feet gates were opened to avoid any disaster, said Hydro-Electricity Production Project Manager Shafiuddin.
