Salt had been sold at increased 5-10 taka per kg rate for past 2 weeks and did not decrease. Since, many importers have not heard about the announcement for salt- importing by the Ministry of Commerce. So, the ministry will be making a public-announcement by tomorrow or the day after.
Monsoon rain had decreased the salt productivity rate. Therefore, to control the market beforehand, committee meeting was called at the Ministry of Commerce. Delegates from Bangladesh Bank, Tariff Commission & City Corporation Market Monitoring Cell, sat for meetings at the Ministry of Commerce. They have decided only to allow the salt-mill owners with processing machines and the ones included in BSCIC list.
Even after the public announcement, it may take up to 4 weeks before the imported salt can reach the national market & finally decrease overall price. Market Analyst are blaming the authorities for not making the announcement public sooner.
