Hossen Sohel: Airport Customs has recovered 4.64kg gold from an aircraft at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The gold, worth almost Tk2 crore, was recovered from the airport on Wednesday. A man named Jahid Mia was detained in relation to the incident.
Income tax officer of Osmani Airport, Enamul Haque, said that a Bangladesh Biman aircraft (BG-228) landed at Osmani Airport at 6:50am after leaving from Dubai. Acting on a tip-off, customs officers recovered 40 gold bars from underneath seat no 10A of the aircraft at 7:10am.
The seat’s passenger, Jahid Mia – from Sheikhghat area of Kotwali thana in Sylhet – was detained. A case is being prepared against him at the Airport police station.
Additional Commissioner of Sylhet customs Niazur Rahman, and other ranked officers, visited the site, said Enamul.
