4 journos killed, over 200 injured during quota reform protests
DOT Desk: As violence erupted in the capital and across the country centered around the quota movement, four journalists have reportedly lost their lives while covering these incidents, reports Dhaka Tribune.
Additionally, at least 35 people have been injured by shotgun shells. At least 224 journalists and media personnel have been injured by gunfire or attacks, with at least 67 in critical condition.
Fatalities : Hasan Mehedi, a senior reporter for Dhaka Times, was shot during violence in Jatrabari on the evening of July 18. He was declared dead after being taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH). Touhid Zaman Priyo, freelance photojournalist, was shot in the head while taking pictures at Science Laboratory intersection on the afternoon of July 19 and died on the spot. Abu Taher Md Turab, journalist for Naya Diganta, was shot while on duty in Sylhet on July 19 and died the next day in hospital. Md Shakil Hossain, Gazipur correspondent for Daily Bhorer Awaz, was shot and killed while collecting news on July 18.
Injured journalists : Many journalists from various print and electronic media in and outside Dhaka were shot, attacked, or injured while on duty. Here is a list of the injured:
Amader Shomoy : Nine journalists from Daily Amader Shomoy were injured. They are Chief Reporter Shahjahan Akand Shuvo, photojournalists Manjurul Babu, Md. Mehraj, and Alamin Leon, staff reporters Abdullah Kafi and Rezaul Reza, and multimedia journalists Mirajul Islam and Akhtaruzzaman. Three Bangladeshi representatives working for foreign media were injured.
