Law Minister Anisul Huq on Monday told Parliament that over 30,000 smuggling cases are now pending with courts across the country.
“A total of 30,787 smuggling cases are now pending, involving Tk 838,89,66,770,” he said replying to a starred question from treasury bench MP M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11).
The minister said various steps have been taken for the quick disposal of cases.
Meanwhile, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque told the House that Bangladesh earned US$ 599.05 million (some Tk 4,740 crore) by exporting fish and fish products during the last fiscal year (2014-’15).
Bangladesh exported a total of 83,524 metric tons of fish and fish products to 56 countries during the period, he said responding to a starred question from Jatiya Party MP Noor-E-Hasna Lily Chowdhury (Women Seat-44).
The major markets of Bangladesh fish and fish products are Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France, the USA, Russia, Japan, Chine, Saudi Arab, Denmark, Portugal and India.
