Health Secretary has been called to the High Court to explain the recent even of 28 children dying, tomorrow. From taking prescribed Paracetamol, which were adulterated drugs supplied by Rid Pharmaceuticals.
Judge Syed Md. Dastagir & Judge Md. Ataur Rahman’s bench ordered of the application hearing about not punishing two medicine administration officers for their incompetence & unprofessionalism, on last Monday. Defendant hearings were conducted by Lawyer Manjil Morshed. State Attorney was Deputy Attorney Gen. Amit Talukdar.
Previously, there were another case when 28 children died of taking adulterated Rid Pharma Paracetamol syrup in 2009. Then, Rid Pharma Management Director Mizanur Rahman & 5 others were accused. But, they were bailed from the case last year.
Dhaka Medicine Court Judge Atowar Rahman mentioned in his verdict that, due to improper case witness and incompetence & unprofessionalism of former Medicine Administration’s Assistant Director Shafikul Islam & Sub-Director Altaf Hossain, Prosecutor side failed to prove their accusation.
Later, Human Rights & Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) challenged the validity of these two officers at Medicine Administration, to the High Court. Therefore a rule was issued on 16 March, demanding explanation for not dismissing these two officers from their posts. But, HRPB had to apply for 2 more times for disciplinary measures. Hence, Health Secretary finally being called to the High Court to explain himself.
