Raj Abrar: At least two more were killed early yesterday as the countrywide anti-drug operation continues to leave a path of bodies, the current toll being 124 bodies in the last 17 days, reports The Daily Star, quoting the daily Prothom Alo.
In yesterday’s count, the two were said to have been killed in “infighting of the drug gangs”.
One “infighting” occurred at Bagharpara upazila of Jessore around 3:00am. The identity of the deceases “drug dealer” could not be known, said the police.
In Madaripur, alleged drug dealer Bachchu Khalifa, 45, was killed amid a tripartite gunfight at Shibchar area around 4:00am.
According to police, during a raid in the area, they heard gunshots from a infighting between two groups of drug dealers. When police reached there the criminals started firing at them forcing them to retaliate.
Bachchu, however, was killed in the infighting of the two groups, Prothom Alo reported quoting Mohammad Sarwer, superintendent of police in Madaripur.
The ongoing drive has already become the bloodiest anti-crime drive, with the death toll surpassing that of the 2002 Operation Clean Heart (57 deaths) or even the anti-militant drive after the 2016 Gulshan attack (80 deaths).
