[2] Independent mayoral candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker, who lost the Narayanganj City Corporation election, went to court yesterday seeking bail for his arrested leaders and activists. He was granted bail in the court of Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate (A-Zone) Nurunnahar, reports Prothom Alo.
[3] Relatives of the arrested leaders and activists were present along with Taimur Alam Khandaker at the court premises at that time. Prior to the election, he had been alleging that his party leaders and activists were being arrested and harassed, reports bartabazar.com.[4] In this regard, Taimur Alam Khandaker said that the police have been arresting and harassing the leaders and workers of his party since before the election.
Two days before the vote, 18 leaders and activists were arrested.[5] Police arrested 10 more leaders and activists on their way home from the night before the vote. They were shown in custody in the case of burning the car of Islam.
[6] Taimur Alam Khandaker said, “Let my two drivers be released, let me be arrested.” Narayanganj court police inspector Asaduzzaman said a bail hearing had been held. The court has reserved the order.
[7] Mumtaz Mia (35), Mohammad Jamal (49), Ahsan Hossain (39), Monir Hossain (38), Ahsan Ullah (48), Kazi Jasim Uddin (40), Borhan Uddin (45), Abu Taher, supporters of Timur on December 14 (52) and Joydev Chandra (48) were arrested. Last Saturday, Sub-Inspector (SI) Hasanuzzaman of the district detective police applied for a 10-day remand, citing their arrest in a custody case. The court ordered them to be sent to jail.
