 A sexagenarian man swam for four hours at a stretch in the turbulent Meghna River. He began swimming at 8 am from Monipuraghat of Raypura Upazila on Monday, reports Dhaka Post. The man was identified as Shahidul Islam, 63, a farmer by profession and a resident of Baluakandi village of Raypura Upazila. According to the local sources, a village doctor named Bokul Mia swam from Bhairab of Kishoreganj to Monipuraghat of Hairmara Union.Inspired, Shahidul Islam decided to cross Meghyna River. The villagers announced that he would be given Tk 1.50 lakh if he could cross the Meghna. Shahidul also announced that he will donate the prize money to an under-construction mosque.Later, he began swimming at 8am and reached Narshingdi Thanar Ghat after four years.
