[3] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the parliament yesterday that the government is going to sign an agreement with South Korea to set up an international institute in the country to produce vaccines, including for Covid-19, UNB, The Daily Star, Dhaka Post.[4] The Prime Minister said the government has taken initiative to produce Covid-19 vaccine in the country, alongside collecting jabs from foreign sources, to curb infections.[5] Meanwhile, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that Bangladesh will receive 10 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine by August under the global arrangement COVAX.[6 ] The minister came up with the information during a press briefing at the Secretariat yesterday, Maidul Islam, public relations officer at the health ministry.[9] “We will get 1,000,000 shots of Covid-19 vaccine in August from COVAX.
We have received a letter in this regard from the World Health Organization,” PRO Maidul quoted the minister as saying.
[10] Regarding vaccines from Russia and China, the minister told media that China is yet to respond on the issue and he hoped they will inform by this month, Maidul added.
“We have completed all the formalities from our end,” Maidul quoted the minister as saying.
Meanwhile, the discussion with Russia is on, Maleque said.
“They may give their decision today on when and how many vaccines they will give us,” he said.
