12 lakh migrant workers to be sent in 2018: Minister

Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Islam said on Wednesday that the government is planning to send 12 lakh migrants abroad this year, reports the Daily Star.“Our priority is to send skilled workers aboard,” the minister said while briefing media at the ministry’s conference room. The ministry organized the briefing to highlight its achievement in 2017.When asked about allegations of highest migration cost, Nurul said that he has not received any allegations in that regard. “If we receive any allegation, we will take action against agencies who charge higher from the workers,” he said.According to Bangladesh  Bank, this year Bangladesh has received a total of 13,526 million USD remittance.“Last year, we sent more than 10 lakh workers to different countries beating all the previous records of the country,” Nurul stated, “This year we are planning to send 12 lakh migrant workers.”
