Labiba Nayeem Khan of DOT
Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Kabir-bin-Anwar visited Sirajganj City Raksha Dam. He arrived in Sirajganj yesterday afternoon, three days after the landslide, and inspected the ongoing emergency security measures. The Deputy Commissioner was present at the time.
Farooq Ahmed, Lt. Colonel Sayem and Executive Engineer. Shafiqul Islam and other senior officials of the administration. The Water Development Board’s (PAUBO) ‘Sirajganj City Protection Dam’ or ‘Hardpoint’ collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. At that moment, about one hundred meters of the dam disappeared into the river Jamuna.
During a visit to the dam on Friday, the Water Resources Secretary also blamed the Korean Hyundai Company, a 25-year-old contractor. Responding to a question from local media persons, he said, “After the construction, the duration of the dam was said to be 100 years from the contractor Hyundai Company.
But in just 10 years, the dam collapsed. I have to say that there must have been a mistake in the construction work of the contractor, but why would it collapse and disappear into the Jamuna.” He added, “Paubo has been instructed to control landslides and erosion by immediately throwing sand and blocks at Geotex as part of an emergency defense operation.” According to him, the defense work is going on. In the next 8 and a half kilometers from Bangabandhu Bridge to Sirajganj City Raksha Dam, a bather metric survey will be carried out at the bottom of the Jamuna and along the embankment. Steps will be taken to protect the city by identifying areas on the slope of the embankment that will be considered dangerous, and if necessary, by throwing a hard rock, as per Samakal.
