Hilsa fish from the coastal area are coming to the big station fishing ground of Chandpur, the biggest market of hilsa in the country. For the last one week, more than one thousand hilsas have been coming in the market every day. So even though less fish is caught in Padma-Meghna in Chandpur, sea hilsa is meeting the demand. However, despite the increase in the import of hilsa in the market, the price has not decreased much.
On Monday (July 26), coastal hilsa was sold at Tk 1,100 per kg and Padma-Meghna hilsa at Tk 1,200 per kg. According to the concerned, if the import of hilsa increases further in August, then the price may come down.
Hasanur Rahman, who came to the big station market to buy hilsa, said, ‘I thought the price of hilsa would be lower in the lockdown. He came to the market in hope. But after visiting the whole market, I bought five hilsas of one kg size with 6 thousand taka. Which is more than the regular price.’
