Locals complain that tannery liquid waste is dumped directly into the Dhaleshwari river from the leather industry town of Savar in the dark of night.Last Monday night, it was seen that liquid waste was being dumped in the river by laying pipes from the Central Waste Treatment Plant (CETP), reports Prothom-alo .
But the liquid waste of the leather industry should be purified and dumped in the river. For this, CETP has been done at a cost of around Tk 547 crore. The tanneries were also removed from the capital’s Hazaribagh and taken to the leather industry to prevent river pollution.
Jitendra Nath Palbalen, director of the Shilpa Nagar project and general manager of BSCIC said he wanted to know about the matter last Monday. It would be very sad if the waste was dumped at night and they must be brought under punishment, he added.
