On this day three years ago, students took to the streets demanding safe roads. The movement started in the capital on July 29, 2018 after the death of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College due to a bus crash, which later spread to different parts of the country. During the movement, students were attacked by ‘helmet forces’. Several cases were also filed against them. Many students are still struggling with the wounds of the attack and the burden of the case, reports KalerKantho.
The movement to demand safe roads spread across the country after two students were crushed and killed by Jabel Noor Paribahan. Many activists attacked protesting students at various places in Dhaka including Jigatla, Science Lab and Mirpur. Police arrested about 100 people in more than 50 cases. Five thousand unidentified persons were accused in this case. Later, however, the students returned to the classroom from the road with the assurance of the government, reports Dainik Shiksha.
