On the last day of the month of Poush, on the day of ‘Poush Sankranti’ or ‘Saccharin’ festival, it will be prohibited to set off fireworks and fly lanterns. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is passing this information on to senior police officials, reports Bangla Tribune.
 The Saccharin Festival will be celebrated on January 14. The festival is celebrated mainly in different parts of old Dhaka by flying kites, fireworks and lanterns, reports Dhaka Post.  Meanwhile, 83 businessmen and landlords of old Dhaka have sent a letter to the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) asking for an effective ban on DJ parties, fireworks, lanterns and drugs in Saccharin. They made the call in a letter sent to the DMP commissioner at noon on Tuesday (January 12).
