[2] People of Dhaka did not get a single day of fresh air in January. Environmentalist organization Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA) has given information at a press conference held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity yesterday. The entry of the freight truck after 10 pm is being blamed for this, reports Dhaka Post.
[3]The press conference was organized keeping in view the demand for taking urgent steps to deal with public health and disasters.
[4] Ahmed Kamruzzaman Majumder, Professor at Stamford University and Director of the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS) delivered the keynote address.
[5] Kamruzzaman said deficiencies in urban planning, weakness of law, and limitations in law enforcement were some of the major causes of air pollution in Dhaka.
[6] Professor Majumder said that the people of Dhaka did not get good air even for a day in January, the air quality was in ‘unhealthy’ condition most of the time. In the last six years, the people of Dhaka have received good air for only 38 days.
[7] Analysis of data from the January 6 year air quality index shows that the average air pollution in 2021 increased by 9.8 percent compared to 2020.
