[2] The government has allowed three private firms to import 16,000 tons of rice, aiming for quick supply of the staple to ease domestic price, report Bangla Tribune, Dhaka Post. Of them 13,000 tons of parboiled rice and 3,000 tons of Atap rice.
[3] The three firms are Ms City Flower Mill of Rangpur, Bangladesh Edible Oil Ltd of Dhaka and Rashid Agro Food Products Ltd of Kushtia.
[4] On September 22, the Food Ministry sent a letter to the Commerce Ministry allowing the firms to import rice.
[5] The LC (Letter of Credit) has to be opened within 15 days of the issuance of the allotment order and the relevant information (including the Bill of Entry) has to be notified to the Ministry of Food immediately via e-mail.
