In addition to border protection, smuggling, trafficking of women and children and prevention of drug smuggling, Border Guard Bangladesh is showing professionalism in maintaining internal law and order. The force is working across the country, including the capital, to ensure social distance and comply with government restrictions in the face of global epidemics, reports Dhakapost.
Training centers are being expanded to ensure state-of-the-art training. Another 15,000 members will be appointed in the next five years.
Senior officials of the force say that the BGB’s strength is increasing due to its multifaceted role and responsibilities in defending the border as well as the need of the hour.
The government has adopted ‘Border Guard Bangladesh Vision 2041’ to implement the declaration of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the light of this, besides decentralization of BGB command level, increase in size, construction of paved roads at the border, recruitment of women soldiers in BGB will be done.
In addition, the BGB has an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), armored personnel carrier (APC), riot control vehicle (RV), high speed boat (Silver Craft, Hurricane Sun Weapon 18) and state-of-the-art anti-tank guide.
