 The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has filed a case in connection with the death of 35 passengers of the launch ‘Sabit Al Hasan’ capsizing by hitting a lighter vessel ‘SK-3’ on Shitalakshya River. In this, the concerned people including the pilot of the lighter vessel, have been made the unidentified accused, Daily Bangladesh.
 BIWTA Assistant Director (Traffic and Safety) Babu Lal Vaidya filed the case with Bandar Police Station on Tuesday night, Naya Diganta.
Confirming the matter, Bandar Police Station OC Deepak Saha said a case has been lodged against the driver of the lighter vessel and other concerned persons. “Police will seize the ship and bring those involved in the incident under the law,” he added.
 Earlier, a launch named ‘Sabit Al Hasan’ left Narayanganj Central Launch Terminal at around 6:00 pm on April 4 with more than 50 passengers on board for Munshiganj. When it reached the Koylaghat area of Sadar upazila on Shitalakshya River at around 6:15 pm, the launch sank in the river after being hit by a lighter vessel from behind.
 Earlier, BIWTA’s rescue ship ‘Prottoy’ rescued the launch on Monday afternoon. The bodies of 24 people were recovered from inside the launch. After recovering the bodies of 35 people, the district administration handed them over to their families.
