The government is considering reopening educational institutions and has decided to assess the situation, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said while briefing the reporters after the cabinet meeting held virtually yesterday, reports The Daily Star. He added that the prime minister also instructed to give Covid-19 vaccines to teachers, officials and employees before reopening educational institutions.
“Now the educational institutions are open in European countries other than England. From this point of view, the Prime Minister instructed the Education Ministry to discuss and think whether we can reopen the educational institutions,” said Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam, reports UNB.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also asked to ensure safety of resident students before the institutions will reopen.
The government shut the educational institutions on March 17, 2020 after the first Covid-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8 last year. The closure was extended several times, most recently until next February 28.
