[2] Abdul Quader Mirza, mayor of Noakhali’s Basurhat municipality who is also the younger brother of Road transport and bridge minister Obaidul Quader made the remark yesterday on a live video from his office, reports Bangladesh Pratidin, Jugantor and Kaler Kantho.
[3] “There will be dire consequences if the municipal election in Noakhali gets marred by irregularities” Mirza warned.
[4] Mirza said that even unimportant activists and leaders of Awami League are going abroad and getting involved in money laundering, drugs, casinos and women. “We beat up addicts when they do anything untoward but on the other hand, police are providing protection to the stock of liquor of the MPs” he added.

[5] Abdul Quader Mirza is contesting the municipality polls, slated for January 16, with an AL ticket.

[6] Unveiling his election manifesto on December 31 last year, Mirza alleged that some local lawmakers and AL leaders were corrupt, manipulated tenders and got involved in recruitment scams. The remarks put the AL top brass in an awkward position.
