 The Independence Day Award 2020 ceremony was postponed due to public health concerns in preventing COVID-19 infection, reports banglanews24.com.  The award will be handed over to the recipients of the state’s prestigious award today.  The ceremony will be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital this morning.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will take part in the event via video conference from Ganabhaban.  This information has been informed from the press wing of the Prime Minister.  All programs, including paying homage at the National Memorial on Independence Day on March 26, were canceled due to public health concerns to prevent coronavirus infection.
At the same time, the program of awarding the Independence Medal was also postponed.
This year, the government has finally nominated nine eminent individuals and organizations for the Independence Award-2020 in recognition of their ‘glorious and meritorious’ contribution at the national level.
It is the highest state civilian award in the country. The government has been giving this award every year since 1977 on the occasion of Independence Day on March 26.
