Mahbubul Bari Aslam, general secretary of Barguna Bar Association, is hopeful that his client Ayesha Siddique Minni, who became an accused in the murder case of Shahnawaz Rifat (Rifat Sharif) in Barguna, will be acquitted. However, Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif has demanded the maximum punishment for Minni.
Wednesday (September 30) is set for the verdict in the case of 10 accused. The total number of accused in this case is 24. However, the trial of 14 accused is going on in the juvenile court as they are minors. Barguna District and Sessions Judge. Ashaduzzaman’s court will announce the verdict. Minni’s lawyer Mahbubul Bari Aslam said that, “we have full confidence in the court. However, as Minni’s lawyer, I think the prosecution has not been able to prove the allegations against Minni.
Rather we have tried to convince the court how Minni tried to save her husband. She is in no way involved in the murder. We are hopeful that Minni will be acquitted in the verdict”.
However, on the last day of the argument, Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif told reporters, “I have confidence in the court.” Hopefully I will get justice”.
He further said that the mastermind of this incident is my son’s ex-wife Ayesha Siddique Minni. I hope she will get the maximum punishment.
The adult accused in the case are, Rakibul Hasan Rifat Faraji, Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon, Mohaiminul Islam Sifat, Rezwan Ali Khan Hridoy alias Tiktak Hridoy, Md. Hasan, Md. Musa, the deceased’s wife Ayesha Siddique Minni, Rafiul Islam Rabbi, Md. Sagar and Kamrul Islam Simon.
The number one accused in the Rifat murder case, Nayan Bond, was killed in a gunfight and was acquitted in the chargesheet. Among the accused, Rifat Faraji gave a confessional statement in court.
In the same incident, 14 juvenile accused are in juvenile correctional facility in Jessore. Their trial is going on in the juvenile court.
Barguna District and Sessions Judge on January 1 this year had framed charges against 10 of the 24 accused in the chargesheet.
On September 1 last year, police filed two separate chargesheets against 24 people, including Rifat’s wife Ayesha Siddique Minni, in the Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court in the Rifat Sharif murder case.
