 Bangladesh got the fifth position by employing one lakh 37 thousand people in the renewable energy sector, according to a report of the International Renewable Energy Agency, reports Prothom Alo.
 China was placed in the first position, Japan second, the USA third, and India fourth in terms of employment in the solar energy sector.
 The report said the spread of solar energy not only increases employment but it also contributes to agriculture, food reserve, health, and local businesses.
 According to the report, there are nearly 58 lakh solar home systems in Bangladesh. About 10,000 people are working in connecting the solar module system.
Bangladesh currently gets 648 MWs of electricity from the renewable energy sector.
Energy expert Prof M Tamim said the employment figure in the renewable energy sector has been exaggerated. He said the country has about 60 lakh solar energy home systems of which about 30 lakh has been installed.
