Cox’s Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court judge Tamanna Farah yesterday passed the bail order of Shahedul Islam Shifat, a student of Stamford University, in two cases filed against him and others after the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan in Teknaf, reports businesspostbd.com.
Besides, the court transferred the Sinha murder case to Rab-15, said Shifat’s counsel Mahbubul Alam Tipu. Sifat’s lawyer advocate Md Golam Mostofa confirmed his bail to Jago News. The court also issued an order to appoint a new investigation officer (IO) replacing the existing one to investigate the case, he said.
Earlier on Sunday, Sifat’s friend Shipra Rani Debnath was granted bail in a narcotics case.
Major (retd) Sinha had been in Cox’s Bazar with them for making a documentary film. On July 31, Sinha was killed in police firing in Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive.
After the firing incident, police arrested Sifat – who was travelling with Sinha – from the spot while Shipra was picked up from a local resort.
