[2] The project to upgrade the Akhaura-Sylhet dual gauge is hanging like the Dhaka-Sylhet road. The people’s representatives of Sylhet led by the Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen could not know the progress even with multiple DO letters to the Ministry of Railways, reports Sara Bangla.[3] A meeting was held yesterday at the Prime Minister’s Office regarding this. Railway officials have been called. If there is any further delay in this, the Foreign Minister has urged the mass people make the movement led by 19 MPs of Sylhet. [4] Railway Director General Shamsuzzaman could not give any final progress on the project. However, he said, “The project has been going on for a long time. Progress is very slow. It is too late due to various complications. Now we are trying to take it forward.”[5] He said, there is an allocation in the current budget. However, it is true that it could not proceed due to various complications.
[6] In the context, the Akhaura-Sylhet railway is to be converted to dual gauge by June 2025. Under the project, the existing 225 km Akhaura-Sylhet meter gauge railway will be converted to 239.14 km dual gauge.

Sylhet Railway Station will be equipped with modern buildings.
