“A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation.”
I want my Bangladesh to be such a developed nation. Yes, our independence in 1971 is something we will always be proud of and something we will cherish, celebrate and remember forever. But it’s time for the next steps of independence to be taken- independence from the numerous shackles that have been keeping us chained in the darkness. I want independence from poverty and pain for all of our people, rich or poor and I want independence from the evil forces that have kept the sparks of humanity from burning alive all around us.
I want the independence we achieved to mean something more-because Bangladesh and her people deserve much better than what persists now. In hope that Bangladesh truly sees that deserving day of peace and happiness- Happy 50 years of independence to all Bangladeshis home and abroad.

“This may be my last message, from today Bangladesh is independent. I call upon the people of Bangladesh wherever you might be and with whatever you have, to resist the army of occupation to the last. Your fight must go on until the last soldier of the Pakistan occupation army is expelled from the soil of Bangladesh and final victory is achieved.”
