It was alleged by borrowers that a number of non-governmental organizations (NGO) field workers collected loan installments at a city and village level. The borrowers further alleged that the field workers went door to door as well as to businesses and harassed borrowers until they paid their dues, reports Barta24.
However the NGO field workers claimed that they only accepted money from those who were willing to give it.
The Rajshahi district administration, like all districts of the country, instructed various banks and NGOs to stop collecting installment money in light of the coronavirus spread. A letter containing such instructions was sent to the district administrations on Monday.
The letter states that until April 30, 2020, all district banks and NGOs have been instructed to stop collecting installments from low-income borrowers.
