“Honestly, before I got married, I was most stressed about my relationship with my mother-in-law. I’d heard stories from my friends and was cooking up all sorts of imaginative scenarios in my head, until I actually moved into my new home.
The last 3 years have been super chill and I didn’t think we’d have such a great relationship. I don’t think we talk enough about how difficult it can be for a girl to move into a new home, but she made it easy. From gossiping over chai to me realising I actually have a pretty cool MIL who’s obsessed with cricket — she’s made it a home away from home.
And we’re pushing each other to grow — I made her try jeans for the first time and she loved it, so now she’s become the most stylish person at home, while she’s encouraging me to apply for a job. Secretly, I think it’s so that I start earning and shop for both of us — but you know what I mean!
Even more serious things – like if I ever have a fight with my husband, I don’t feel like she’s ‘his’ mother — I actually feel comfortable enough to tell her and get some pretty amazing advice.
But, latest on our list of adventures is the mission to get ‘fit’ — so we’re obsessing over protein bars! That is, until the next chick-flick is playing on TV and we both tumble into a gigantic tub of Tender Coconut ice-cream…only to complain about our weight for about a week after!”
