Pahela Falgun and Valentine’s Day both are being celebrated today
DOT Desk: This is the first time that people will celebrate both Pahela Falgun and Valentine’s Day together, for the past 4 years it has been celebrated on every 13th February according to Gregorian calendar. But this year it’s an exception and masses are celebrating Pahela Falgun today along with Valentine’s Day.
According to Bengali calendar Spring season consists of Falgun & Chaitra. Mostly Falgun has 30 days but this year as it is on leap year, so it contains 31 days.
Every 14th February it feels like, love is in the air. Mostly people wear red colour dresses for celebrating Valentine’s Day but this year it will be an exception as mostly people wear yellow on Pahela Falgun which embodies colourful nature. So, breaking the conventional norm this year it is different.
Flower shops and shopping malls mostly remains crowded. This year both of these occasions are on the same day, thus flower vendors are having a good amount of profit.
Keeping Valentine’s Day into an account ornament shops have special offers so that one can gift ornaments to their loved ones within a reasonable price rather than usual.
Restaurants provides special offers for their customers, such as- buy 1 get 1 offer etc. Many organizations have held cultural events for celebrating Pahela Falgun. Every year, Dhaka University’s Fine Arts Faculty celebrates Pahela Falgun in their traditional manner, this year is also not an exception.
Valentine’s Day came from ancient Roman history. The history of Valentine’s Day, from the ancient Roman ritual of Lupercalia that welcomed spring to the card-giving customs of Victorian England. From that time till now people celebrate Valentine’s Day on every 14th February. It is celebrated across the globe. Bangladeshi people also celebrate this day. This year masses are celebrating both these 2 occasions with grand gesture.
