The government wants to boost relations with the Middle East. As part of the effort, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has visited UAE at the start of the year.
On February 13, a joint commission meeting with Saudi Arabia was held in Dhaka. On February 17, first ‘political dialogue’ of state minister
level will be held with Qatar in Dhaka. Asud Ahmed, Bangladesh ambassador to Qatar said that political visits are important to consolidate ties between two countries and the issue will get preference in the dialogue scheduled to be held in Dhaka.
The ambassador said that economic cooperation, immigration, education, prisoner swap, financing mega projects, UN elections and other issues will be discussed in the dialogue. Besides, maritime transportation, science and research, transfer of sentenced persons will be highlighted in the dialogue.
