In the case of Sonali Bank’s loan forgery case, Jaha Alam, a jute worker of Tangail, was sentenced to three years in the ACC without committing any offence. After the incident was published in the newspaper, a lawyer brought the matter to the notice of the High Court.
After the hearing on February 3 of 2019, the High Court had issued a rule asking why the detention order of Jaha Alam would not be declared illegal. The court further ordered Jaha Alam to be discharged from the ACC cases and Jaha Alam was released from Kashimpur jail in Gazipur that night.
The hearing on the rule was conducted yesterday and a bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice Kamrul Quader passed the order yesterday (February 12th). The matter is now pending for judgment (CAV). Deputy Attorney General Barrister ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar was present at the hearing. Khurshid Alam Khan was for the ACC.
In January last year, a newspaper published a report on Jaha Alam’s impunity. The report was brought to the notice of the court by Supreme Court lawyer Amit Dasgupta. Later, the court issued the rule on suo moto.
