Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said that 10 million saplings would be distributed among 482 upazilas on June 5 as part of celebrating centenary birth of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The Minister made the announcement while speaking at a farewell and reception ceremony of the Ministry’s Secretary yesterday. “Indigenous saplings will get preference among the saplings to be distributed.
The environment laws will be enforced strictly. As part of that, 300 errant brick kilns were destroyed in the last one month across the country. As per the directives of the High Court, polythene and single-use plastic will be brought to the level zero within next year,” said the Minister.
The ceremony was addressed by Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar, BFDC Chairman Md Ahsanul Jabar, Chief Conservator of Forest Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, DOE DG Dr AKM Rafique Ahmed and BFRI Director Dr Md Masudur Rahman, among others.
