DOT Desk: parliamentary body on Sunday recommended carrying out dope tests of admission seekers at all universities, as part of the government’s move to free the country from the menace of narcotics. The parliamentary standing committee on home affairs also asked university authorities to carry out dope tests of all students before final examinations.Awami League lawmaker Shamsul Haque, chief of the parliamentary watchdog, presided over the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The committee also recommended that a policy be formulated on appointing necessary number of doctors, and increasing facilities.

Top brass of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), and University Grants Commission Chairperson Prof Kazi Shahidullah, were present at the meeting, among others.The parliamentary watchdog also asked police to be alert so that its members cannot get involved in criminal activities.
It also recommended establishing a modern fire service training academy in a bid to make the service more effective.
Meanwhile, chairperson of University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof Kazi Shahidullah, told The Daily Star that they would discuss how to take necessary steps in this regard.
“We will sit down with the vice-chancellors of various universities soon, in order to find a way in which the entire process can be carried out smoothly,” Prof Shahidullah told this newspaper over phone last night.
