Durgapur upazila of Netrokona district is rich in natural resources. Durgapur city, Birishiri and Durgopur unions are at high risk of earthquake or onrush of water from hills in India.
Durga Prasad Tewari, a senior citizen of Durgapur said that Susong Palace was reduced to rubble during an earthquake in 1894.
The huge fissures created canals following the earthquake. The rear side of the palace was totally disappeared. When the Zamindar system was abolished in 1950, the descendants of Susong went to Kolkata. All land properties were taken over by the government when the last king Maharaj Bhupendra Chandra Singha Sharma went to Kolkata.
Chandra Gopal Shulka informed that no concrete house built in the area till 1964 in compliance with the order of the kings.
The earthquake during 1894 dealt a severe blow to the locality. The senior citizens of the locality said that the presidents are living in constant fear of earthquake.
